In early January, the Cross Country Ski Areas Association and Snow Sports Insights conducted a survey of cross country ski areas to get a reading on how the season was going as of Jan. 15. Findings include: season pass sales were up, day pass sales were down slightly, demand for rental equipment was up, retail sales at ski areas were up and lesson sales were up.
Fifty-three percent of the ski areas and clubs responding indicated that season pass sales were up and over half of the ski areas that were seeing season pass sales growth had double digit growth. This result indicates that the skiers who had a participation lapse began returning to cross country skiing.
