LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
September 2018 | Vol 5. | No. 3
issue of SnowOps finds
you coming off of a safe
and enjoyable summer.
I hope you were able to get out and
enjoy the heat waves that held North
America (and most of the world) in
their grip; I know I did! As much as I
enjoy the heat, I’m beyond excited to
get this new snow season underway.
In this issue you’ll find articles that
we hope will help you get prepared for
the upcoming season. This issue’s cover
story explores accessibility at ski resorts
in terms of program offerings for
people who are differently abled. We
caught up with some leading organizations
to help resorts determine what
they should include in an accessibility
program and how to implement one.
That story starts on page 18.
We also explore Taos Ski Valley’s recent
certification as a B Corporation
and the practical sustainability efforts
the resort has applied to reduce its carbon
footprint. Flip to page 10 to learn
how easy it is to start a green strategy
at your organization.
Safety and preparedness is of the
utmost importance for everyone hitting
the trails. On page 15 you’ll find an
article on VSSL, an amazing company
that offers reasonably-priced, compact
emergency preparedness canisters that
are customizable.
We’re also introducing our new
Across the Pond column, which looks
at innovations happening at other
ski hills, resorts and trails around the
world. Our first article on page 30, explores
the Giggijoch Mountain gondola
– which has an hourly capacity of 4,500
people. Wow! Let me know what you
think of this new addition to SnowOps.
I hope you enjoy this issue and look
forward to hearing your feedback and
comments. Don’t forget to like and follow
us on Facebook and Twitter. I’m
always open to suggestions, so feel free
to drop me a line if you have an article
topic you’d love to see in a future issue
of SnowOps.
Cheers,
Lindsay Risto
