EDITOR’S MESSAGE

Snowmaking
www.snowopsmag.com and Synthetic
Bamboo
Happy new year! I hope you
had a safe and enjoyable holi-day
season, and are ready to
start this new decade on the
right foot. To help you do that, we’ve
packed this issue with some great ar-ticles
that we hope will help get your
ski resorts and ski areas, as well as
trail networks, ready to face one of
the biggest threats to our industry:
climate change.
Head over to page 15 to read about the
Snowfactory from TechnoAlpin. This is
not a new technology, but is starting to
have more of a presence as Ski Apache –
located in New Mexico – received their
system last October (the second system
to land in North America). This supple-mental
snowmaking system has been
used in Europe for years, and will surely
be a welcomed addition to the southern
resort as the mercury continues to stay
warmer, longer.
Ski resorts and ski areas have long
used bamboo to mark trail systems.
However, due to recent political ten-sions,
many suppliers are experienc-ing
increased difficultly when trying to
import bamboo. Many suppliers have
decided to abandon bamboo imports
altogether, leaving resorts and ski ar-eas
with few viable options. Step in Re-liable
Racing Supply, who has created
Syn-Boo; a synthetic bamboo that is
more durable – and lighter – than the
real thing. Head over to page 25 for full
details on this alternative product.
You won’t want to miss this issue’s
cover story on page 18. We met up
with Prinoth who provided three snow
groomers for the 2019 Audi FIS Wom-en’s
World Cup at Killington Resort in
Vermont last month. This is sure to be
a big year for industry veteran Prinoth,
as they share with us other notable
partnerships for 2020.
The 2020 SnowOps Equipment Com-parison
Guide is now accepting sub-missions.
Find categories and submis-sion
instructions on page 33. Don’t see
a category for your equipment? Drop
me an line and let’s see what we can
figure out.
As always, I hope you enjoy this issue
of SnowOps and that you find the ar-ticles
beneficial to your business. Don’t
forget to reach out if you have any com-ments
or topics that you would like to
see in upcoming issues of SnowOps. Fi-nally,
be sure to like and follow us on
Facebook and Twitter. Here’s to the
new roaring ’20s!
Happy snow operations,
Lindsay Risto
