EDITOR’S MESSAGE
January 2021 | Vol 8. | No. 1

Innovative
Industry
Happy New Year and best
wishes for a safe, healthy and
successful 2021!
It’s a standard sentiment
for this time of year, but after 2020,
it seems to have new meaning. Our
normal has been shattered. Virtually
every industry sector has had to
change how it operates to remain
open. Luckily, this is an industry that
is full of innovative and forward-thinking
individuals who continue
to bring winter fun to all, regardless
of the many challenges staring back:
COVID-19, climate change and
training, to name a few.
As we continue to bring coverage
to industry to help mitigate the
COVID-19 pandemic, head over
to page 21 for discussion on risk
management plans for ski areas and
resorts. Ensure your plan is up to
date with the latest guidance from
government agencies to keep staff and
guests safe this snow season.
Climate change continues as a
key consideration for ski resorts and
ski areas. If snowmaking and snow
coverage are issues for your slopes and
trails, flip to page 17 to learn about
SnöFlake, a snowmaking system now
distributed by CHS Snowmakers in the
U.S. A unique feature of this system is
its ability to produce ice-flake snow in
mild temperatures up to 50°F (10°C).
We also caught up with Prinoth to
discuss the updates they have made
to Prinoth Academy (page 15). The
added features help make remote
learning easier and more accessible as
industry – and the world – continues
to adapt to COVID-19.
Don’t forget to check out our cover
story on page 10 for some great tips
and information regarding winch
maintenance for PistenBully, Prinoth
and Tucker Sno-Cat machines that are
winch equipped.
Last, but certainly not least, we
are officially accepting submissions
for the 2021 SnowOps Equipment
Comparison Guide, which will be
included in April’s issue. Head over
to page 33 for complete guidelines.
As always, it is the responsibility of
original equipment manufacturers
to submit content for inclusion.
SnowOps does not pick-up spec sheets
or photos from previous years, nor
do we solicit companies to submit. If
you have any questions regarding the
submission process, please feel free to
drop me a line.
We’re working on something special
for our snowmobile club volunteers. If
there is a hard-working and dedicated
volunteer in your club that you feel
deserves some special recognition, I’d
love to hear from you.
Don’t forget you can reach out at
any time if you have comments on this
issue or topics you would like to see
covered in future issues. If you haven’t
already, be sure to like and follow us
on Facebook and Twitter. I hope you
enjoy this issue!
Again, all the best for 2021
and beyond,
Lindsay Risto
