LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

www.snowopsmag.com Snow
Introduction
The hills are hopping, the
trails are alive with the sound
of snowmobiles; winter has
arrived. As snow area operations
are in full swing I hope you find
a moment to relax with this issue
of SnowOps.
We packed this issue with some great
articles that I hope will help you plan
for the months ahead and into future
seasons. For starters, our cover story is
on the Share Winter Foundation. This
wonderful organization’s focus is to
get young people from all backgrounds
involved in winter sports. Find that article
on page 14 and see how your area
can get involved.
Did you know that Colorado Mountain
College’s Leadville campus has offered
a Ski Area Operations program
for 40 years? This two-year program
instructs students in all aspects of operating
a hill including snowmaking,
vehicle maintenance, grooming and
management. This is a great opportunity
for people interested in a career in
snow operations to get hands-on training
and gain a thorough understanding
of the finer points of the industry. Read
that article on page 22.
As always, we hold safety and emergency
preparedness in the highest regard.
To help you stay safe on the hills
and trails we have two articles we hope
you will find beneficial. Flip to page 11
for a profile on goTenna, a small and
affordable technology that creates an
independent, long-range radio network
off grid. We also caught up with
Ski California on page 33 for an update
on their successful Mountain Safety
Guide initiative.
The 10th Annual Take a Friend
Snowmobiling campaign kicks off this
month. Head over to page 29 for some
great information on how your club can
get involved with this important event
that introduces snowmobiling to those
who may not have had the opportunity
or information to begin in the past.
It’s also that time of year when we
start preparing for the SnowOps Equipment
Comparison Guide. All of the
details for submitting your company’s
information can be found on page 37.
This is a great, free opportunity for you
to show off your company’s products
directly to your customers.
I hope you enjoy this issue and look
forward to hearing your feedback and
comments. Don’t forget to like and follow
us on Facebook and Twitter. I’m
always open to suggestions, so feel
free to drop me a line if you have an
article topic you’d love to see in a future
issue of SnowOps. All the best for a
successful 2019!
Cheers,
Lindsay Risto
